For those who served honorably. For what comes next.
When a service member separates from the United States Armed Forces, they receive a DD-214 — the Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. It's the document that says your service is complete.
It's also the moment when a whole new set of challenges begins. Life after the military is a transition unlike any other — from structure to uncertainty, from mission to open road. The After the 214 Fund is named for that moment. What comes after the form is signed. What veterans face when the uniform comes off and the support structure of military life is no longer there.
Nick Ferrara — known as Finn — was born and raised in Port Jervis, New York. He joined the United States Army and served his country at home and abroad as a Military Police officer. He was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran — a distinction he carries with pride.
After his service, Nick worked at the VA hospital in Albany and later at the Department of Justice, before retiring from federal service. He now works for the State of New York as a veterans representative — advocating for the men and women who served, just as someone once advocated for him.
Nick built the After the 214 Fund because he lived the transition. He knows firsthand what veterans need in the days, months, and years after separation — and what isn't always available. He decided to do something about it.
